Sabbats are celebrations of the relationship between the Sun and the Earth. Sabbats are for celebrating the relationships of the God with the Goddess in their particular seasonal aspects and the effects they have on one another and the universe around them. There are no formal circles cast during Zenithian Sabbat celebrations. The Priestess cleanses herself as well as her surroundings several times prior to and during the Sabbat. Cleansing prayers and incense smudging will work fine. The lessons of the season should be a theme throughout the day and in fact should be the kick off for the months theme, goal and or lesson.
Esbats are celebrations of the Goddess and Magic. They are celebrations of the relationship between the Triple Goddess, the Moon, the Earth and the Universe. Esbats are times of magic and spells, times to make talisman and bless holy water. Formal circles are cast and energy raised.
Sabbats are more of a gradual raise of energies blending with the seasons that spike during the Sabbat ritual and dissipate throughout the months blending into the next month’s energies. It is a time to attune with the earth and the sun and the pulse of their relationship. Sabbats focus on the community and the health of the Earth and the family unit. Esbats focus on self, family and coven and our personal relationship with the Goddess.
Please feel free to share your thought on the Sabbats and Esbats and how you interpret them.
